The Sankalpa Vakya - The One Sentence That Makes a Pooja Yours

Inside every sankalp mantra, after the four coordinates have been established (Kaal, Desh, Naam, Gotra - see Article 40), there is one specific sentence that does the work of making the puja yours rather than generic. This sentence is the Sankalpa Vakya - the declaration of intention.

It is one sentence. It can be brief or detailed. But it is the sentence that names what you are asking of the deity through this rudra abhishek puja.

What the Sankalpa Vakya Looks Like

In Sanskrit, the structure is: Mama [name] [gotra]gotrasya, [kamna] kamana siddhyartham, idam puja karishye. In English: I, [name], of the [gotra] gotra, am performing this puja for the fulfilment of [specific intention].

The blank for the kamna is the Sankalpa Vakya. Whatever you write in the booking form's intention field becomes this sentence.

What to Put There

This is one of the most important questions devotees ask, and the Vedic tradition has a specific recommendation: be honest, be specific enough that you would recognise the answer if it came, and be open enough that the deity has room to respond in unexpected ways.

Examples of good Sankalpa Vakya statements: - For the resolution of my pending court case in a way that is just. - For the conception and healthy birth of a child. - For my mother's recovery from her current illness. - For the prosperity of my business and the welfare of all who work in it. - For protection from the obstacles I am facing whose source I cannot name.

Examples of less effective Sankalpa Vakya: - For success. (Too vague - the deity does not know which success.) - For the buyer of my house to be Mr. X at price Y by date Z. (Too constrained - the deity has no room to respond differently if a better outcome is available.)

How the Pandit Handles It

When you book a SiddhiStar rudra abhishek puja, the kamna you state in your booking is what the pandit speaks in your Sankalpa Vakya. He does not edit it. He does not rephrase it. The exact intention you stated is the exact sentence spoken before the deity.

This is why the booking form's intention field matters. It is not a comments box. It is the sentence the deity will hear on your behalf.

The Sankalp and the Puja Are Tied

Once the sankalp mantra with its Sankalpa Vakya is spoken, the rudrabhishek puja that follows is being conducted for that specific intention. The mantras chanted, the offerings made, the rudrabhishek vidhi executed - all of it is in service of the Sankalpa Vakya.

This is why getting it right matters. The puja is the answer. The Sankalpa Vakya is the question.

Book a Rudrabhishek with a thoughtful Sankalpa Vakya. Your specific intention. Spoken before the deity.
