Why Every Baglamukhi Puja Begins With Lord Shiva: The Logic of Mansik Pujan

Every baglamukhi puja in the Narwar parampara begins the same way: with mental worship - Mansik Pujan - of Lord Shiva. Before any baglamukhi mantra is spoken, before the Sankalp is taken, before the yantra is established. Shiva is invoked first, in the mind, in silence.

This is not optional. It is not a custom. It is structural to how the maa baglamukhi ceremony works.

Why Shiva First

Baglamukhi mata is one of the Dasa Mahavidyas - the ten great wisdom goddesses. Each of them has a specific Bhairava - the masculine principle that consorts with and protects the goddess. Baglamukhi's Bhairava is a specific form of Shiva.

To approach the goddess without first acknowledging her Bhairava is to bypass the gateway. The puja may continue, but it lacks the settling that comes from the relationship being properly honoured.

This is why every baglamukhi puja begins with Mansik Pujan of Shiva - not as a separate Shiva puja, but as the proper opening of the Baglamukhi ceremony itself.

What Mansik Pujan Looks Like

The pandit closes his eyes. He visualises the form of Shiva that the tradition holds - the meditating Shiva, blue-throated, jata holder of the Ganga. He offers, mentally, all the Upchar that he would offer physically: water, flowers, fragrance, lamp, food, betel. The complete puja, performed in the mind, in silence, taking only minutes.

When the eyes open, Shiva has been received. Then Maa Baglamukhi can be invoked.

What This Means for Your Pooja

When you book a SiddhiStar baglamukhi puja, the pandit will perform Mansik Pujan of Shiva at the opening. You may not see this - it happens in silence. But it has happened. The ceremony then begins on the foundation that the tradition designed.

Book a Baglamukhi puja with the complete vidhi. Including Mansik Pujan of Shiva.
