What Happens in a SiddhiStar Sawan Rudrabhishek - The Complete Sequence

A SiddhiStar rudra abhishek puja conducted on a Sawan Somvar follows a specific complete sequence. It is not a generic puja with a Sawan label. It is calibrated to the particular potency of Mondays in Shravan.

What follows is the full sequence as it is conducted at Narwar Dham during Sawan.

Pre-Sequence: Pavitrikaran and Aachaman

Every SiddhiStar Shiva ceremony begins this way. The space is purified. The pandit is purified. (See Article 22 for the full theology.)

Sankalp - Family Names Spoken

Each registered devotee's name, gotra, city, and kamna is spoken before the Shivalinga. This is what makes the ceremony specifically yours.

Mansik Pujan of Lord Shiva

Mental worship of Shiva. Setting the foundation. (See Mahashivratri Article 21 in the original series.)

Gauri Ganesh Pujan

Ganesha is invoked first. The Ganesha Pancharatnam is chanted in full. (See Mahashivratri Article 16.)

Yantra Sthapana

The Shivalinga or Shiva yantra is established as the seat of the deity for this ceremony.

The Main Rudrabhishek

The 16 Upchar offerings are made. Then the panchamrit abhishek with all five substances individually and combined. Then the specific abhishek for the kamna stated in the Sankalp - Dugdha for child-prayer, Ghrit for continuation, Madhu for relationships, Ganne ka ras for prosperity, Sarson ka tel for Shatru Daman, Tirth Jal for ancestral karma. (See Articles 25-30 for the specifics of each.)

The Namakam and Chamakam are chanted continuously throughout.

The 108 Names of Shiva

The Shiva Ashtottara Shatanamavali is chanted with flower offering for each name. (See Mahashivratri Article 14.)

The Havan

The fire is lit. The offerings to the three fires are made. Mantras chanted with each ahuti.

The Maha Aarti and Pushpanjali

The lit lamp circulated before the Shivalinga. Yellow flowers offered. The Karpur Gauram chanted (see Mahashivratri Article 20).

The Kshama Prarthana

The closing forgiveness prayer (see Mahashivratri Article 5).

Visarjan

The formal release of the deity from the yantra back into cosmic form.

What Makes the Sawan Version Specifically Different

Three things distinguish the sawan rudrabhishek from a Rudrabhishek conducted at any other time:

The Sankalp explicitly names that the puja is being conducted on a Sawan Somvar, invoking the compounded potency of the day.

The mantras for Soma (the moon) are given particular emphasis - Monday's deity is honoured alongside Shiva.

The Tirth Jal abhishek uses water from the Sindh that has been gathered specifically that morning - water that has flowed through the river beside Narwar Dham during the Sawan rains.

These are subtle but real differences. They are why the rudrabhishek vidhi for Sawan is its own specific ceremony - not a generic puja with the date attached.
