Rahu Ketu Shanti

Rahu Ketu Shanti is the jap anushthan of the two chhaya grahas, the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu, worshipped together. Rahu the parampara links to sudden events, confusion, obsession and the unconventional; Ketu to detachment, the mysterious, and the karma of the past. Their shanti is sought through phases of confusion and sudden upheaval, for freedom from obsessive worry or restlessness, and when an astrologer reads either node afflicting the chart. Both mantras are chanted, each to its own count. The parampara holds Rahu and Ketu as the head and tail of the same shadow, the axis on which many charts turn, and honours both in one rite. The anushthan chants Rahu's mantra and Ketu's mantra each to its prescribed sankhya, with the dashansh hawan on each, seeking the clearing of confusion and the settling of the shadow. At SiddhiStar the anushthan is performed by lineage-trained pandits in the shastriya krama, with your name and gotra carried into the sankalp. The count is chosen at booking, and where a devotee wishes to do more, the parampara allows the anushthan to be raised to a sawa lakh. The rite is sealed by the dashansh hawan, and where hawan cannot be arranged, additional jap is completed in its place.
