What Is This Puja?
Durga Saptashati, also known as Devi Mahatmya, comprises the sacred narrative and stuti of Maa Bhagwati through 13 chapters and 700 verses. The one-day Durga Saptashati Paath brings the complete paath into a single dedicated Anushthan. The ritual begins with purification and Sankalp, followed by the prescribed preliminary recitations, invocation of Maa Bhagwati, Durga Saptashati Paath and concluding prayers. It is especially requested during Navratri, but may also be performed on other appropriate occasions when the family wishes to undertake a dedicated Devi Upasana. The Yajman's name, gotra and family members are recorded at booking so that the Paath is performed with a specific Sankalp rather than as a general recitation.
